Eternia, an Ottawa, Ontario native, released her first album, It’s Called Life in 2005. It was nominated for Rap Recording of the Year at the 2006 Juno Awards. She also performed on the Van’s Warped Tour, SXSW, and NXNE. Her album, At Last, which came out in 2010, was a collaboration with producer MoSS. It was named as a longlisted nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. At Last also brought Eternia her second Juno Award nomination. It featured guest appearances by some of Hip Hop’s finest such as Ras Kass, Rah Digga, Lady of Rage, Jean Grae, Joell Ortiz, Termanology, Reef the Lost Cauze & more. It was named one of the Top 25 Albums of 2010 by the legendary DJ Premier. She’s one of the dopest in the game!

Eternia is a part of The NEWPRINT, which is a media and management group. The company founded by Graig ‘Sav’ Stanton, which also represents: Supastition and One Be Lo (Binary Star).

In this song “SCRAPS”, Eternia raps about someone she used to deal with who didn’t have any self confidence or hope in himself. In the first verse she raps about how he used to always blame this person and criticize them about their actions and thoughts but then by the end of the verse, she realizes that she sees a lot of herself in him. She’s no better than him by allowing herself to try to make him change while ignoring her own needs and well-being. The chorus then kicks in “Whatever is right/ whatever is true/ whatever is honorable/ whatever is pure/ whatever sheds light whatever is excellent in essence a mirror of you…”.

Verse two then comes in and she goes in depth into how she has allowed herself to become something she didn’t want to be rapping “I’m too busy paving his ruts I didn’t see my own insecurities were being fed by this stuff” she later goes on later in the verse saying “I’m still lifting you up while sinking myself”. In the final verse, we learn what happened to the person she was dealing with.

Eternia’s flow on top of the boom bap hip hop beat make for an addictive track. The chorus is also very catchy. All in all, this song is a story that talks about how Eternia learned a life lesson but many listeners as well can listen to this and learn from her actions. She’s throwing out a strong message, which is to not lose yourself completely in someone else. Eternia is definitely talented lyricist with a hard hitting flow. She is one of the dopest female MCs out.
