A young artist with a game plan is the type of grind we like to see from buzzing artists stepping into the rap game. Meet FBN-Juan, the rising hip hop artist hailing from Atlanta with swagger and a brand that sets him a part from the pack. We recently did an interview with the 22-year-old to discuss his upcoming music, plans, and what he has learned so far in the game. Peep the interview below.
Tell us about yourself and your music.
I’m a 22 year old artist from Atlanta, GA. I started making music in middle school writing hooks and then after that I fell in love and started writing songs for my self. I still write songs for others but I usually have a feature on there. I try to give my fans something more than the usual and something different, I try to switch up flies and ideas every song.
How would you describe your sound?
I describe my sound as unique, I try to be myself and make it off of my own flow and not borrowing someone else’s just to get my foot in. I like experiencing with new flows and switching things up with my music.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
The name of the mixtape is 2 AM in Atlanta. I had been so busy with work and working late nights to where I got off late in the night every night. My brother kept hitting me up like “yo when you dropping more music” I explained the situation and told him I didn’t know. One night I had an idea for a song and the songs first line in my verse was “its 2 am in Atlanta” and I went on and pretty much recorded the whole mixtape at 2 am in the morning. Plus I reside in a penthouse downtown in Atlanta so I was looking over the city, so 2 AM in Atlanta just kind of stuck.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
I’m currently working on getting everything mixed down so I can finally release the mixtape. I put a lot of effort in time into it and I want the sound of it to be captivating to anyone who hears it. I want people to be like oh yeah this kid is up next. I want people to hear real rap again and hear a young Atlanta rapper with not just turn up club music but who can actually be lyrical and intellectual.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
The biggest highlight so far has to be starting BDE Music Group, just writing songs seeing people out performing and doing big things with them. I haven’t took music seriously until now I didn’t have the time or dedication until now. Now I’m ready for that sacrifice, that effort, and time. My brother Noved in DC out there making major moves. Interviews shows all that, rapping BDE and now it’s that time everyone knows about the 1,2 duo from BDE Music Group FBN-Juan and Noved
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
My ideal collar would be Wayne he was always my inspiration and my role model lyrically in the game.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
My first love was baseball, I was getting scouted by the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, and the LA Dodgers. I gave up baseball for basketball in high school and ended up getting hurt and completely gave up sports.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
I’ve learned that promotion is everything, if you don’t have the right supporting cast you will never make it in the game.
What can we expect from you in the future?
A lot more music, I’ve become dedicated so I’m really on my grind now and will be releasing a lot a lot more music more often.
