For a second day in a row demonstrators marched all over the country in response to the grand jury decision in the chokehold death of Eric Garner. Protests were held in New York City, Oakland, San Francisco, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Wlimington, Del. are more cities around the nation Thursday (Dec. 4).
In Chicago, at least two people were detained by cops. Authorities briefly closed off Lakeshore Drive due to the crowds, while in Boston thousands swarmed a tree-lighting ceremony. “We stand in solidarity with the rest of the people across the world who see there’s a problem and it needs to be fixed,” said one resident. “We’re not going to tolerate that disregard for black lives and black bodies.”
Atlanta saw hundreds converge on college campuses and in the downtown area, along with other spots around the city, and in New York thousands marched in Times Square, Brooklyn and beyond.
Rallies are expected to extend into the weekend.
