Donald Glover is about to combine a pair of his loves—Hip-Hop music and acting—into one television show. The FX Network has ordered a pilot called Atlanta about the ATL rap scene that’s set to star the Community actor who goes by the name Childish Gambino when rapping.
The pilot follows two cousins in the Atlanta rap scene, with Glover playing a character named Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks, described as a “college dropout who reconnects with his long buried ambition and sets out to seize the life he imagined for himself when his estranged cousin becomes a sudden star.” Glover will also executive produce the show with Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle.
Childish Gambino was nominated for a pair of 2015 Grammys in the “Best Rap Performance” and “Best Rap Album” categories.
