Travla, is a dynamic Minnesota rap artist that has a raw and honest demeanor about him. It’s like, what you see is what you get. Coming from a rough past and background, Travla speaks his truth in his music and uses his message as a cautionary tales for his young listeners. Travla is in the making to becoming one of the most unique artists in the rap game as of late.
I got a chance to interview Travla about his artistry, his music, and his upcoming plans.
Tell us about yourself and your music?
Travla: What’s popular… I go by Travla. The name comes from my travels as a young man until now. I noticed I just like different sceneries and meeting new people. The world is too big to be complacent, so I’m trying to explore as much as I can before I die as well as being an advocate and activist. My music is versatile and relatable to most of the world, which I would say is 90%. The music is talking about real life situations while giving it in story format. I can’t really explain it because it’s just different. The soul that is behind it is of no other human on earth I would say. We all have different callings and attributes so mine is performing and making dope music.
How would you describe your sound?
Travla: As I was saying previously, my sound is soulful and unique. It’s a mix of old school more new school with a mixture of dopeness. It’s a lot of pain and happiness mix in one sound.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape?
Travla: It depends on how the format is. I can think of something I’m currently going through and have a chorus in my head then follow through with it on a lit beat. I more than often start the process with a chorus. I hear a beat sometimes and just get in a zone and put the song together. It might take me an hour or 2 to make the song or sometimes a day or two. It depends on the mood I’m in at the time.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Travla: I’m currently working on more material. Shooting multiple videos that will be coming out periodically from now till 2017…I just opened up for GZA yesterday, but as far as future shows, I would say that’s a surprise at the moment or still to be determined.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Travla: My biggest highlight would be my Pandora Station (Travla Radio). To know that I’m being heard over a recognized platform like so is exciting to keep it 100.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?
Travla: Current up to date collaborations would have to be Kanye West, Jay -Z, Tech9, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J Cole, Future, Kevin Gates, Bryson Tiller, Ty Dollar Sign, The whole Wu-Tang Clan, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and honestly many more but as of now those would be my top picks.
Name something random that people do not know about you?
Travla: Random? I’m a really good poker player.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Travla: That people aren’t solid. People like to name drop in order to make themselves look more important than they are. I’ve learned to be patient, cautious and research credentials. Just taking my time with everything I do.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Travla: You can expect to see me on the top of everything. Travla will be that household name and role model that will be looked up too.
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Travla: Definitely go check out all my social media links. I’d like to thank all the readers for taking the time out to check me out. Last but not least know that I thank God for all my accomplishments and future achievements. Be blessed and keep going for what you believe in.
