We do a lot of artist submissions, but not too many spotlight features on the behind the scene guys and ladies. Today’s interview is with a producer (who happens to also be a song-writer, artist and event planner). His name is Sam GNotes, a Latin Canadian producer with a good ear for beats. One of the beats in particular that is hot, is his production on Junior D. and Don P’s track, “Just Wanna B Me.” Sam GNotes talks about his career as a producer, his latest plans and of course how the track “Just Wanna B Me” came about.

Tell us about yourself and your music.
Sam GNotes: Spanish background, who grew up in a poor part of Toronto known as South Side Jane St. With no father guidance and kicked out on the streets at the age of 15. [I] found music as the only way to express what I saw day to day. Fast track to now, I’m 27 and feel I am at the best moment of my life about to drop my first official mixtape “Love & Pain” hosted by Mixtape Addicts feature include Chcoclair, Corey Fila, Sese, Vatoz SA, and the list is endless.
How would you describe your sound?
Sam GNotes: I would describe my sound as da city sound “Toronto Sound” it will still have that OVO sound, but with a twist of my own stuff incorporated.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
Sam GNotes: “Love & Pain” has taken 1 year to be developed only because I want to put out nothing but the best. After dropping my first video “Keep It on Da Low,” I have gotten a lot of good feedback.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Sam GNotes: I currently produced/directed a music video for Junior D & Don P “Just Wanna Be ME.”
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Sam GNotes: It would have to be meeting Snoop Dogg in person and cheffing with him, very humble guy!
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
Sam GNotes: At this moment my favourite artist is Caskey from Rich Gang and a collaboration with Black Sheep “Caskey” would be a highlight of my life.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
Sam GNotes: I got 10 Tattoos (laughs).
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Sam GNotes: In order for the industry to shine light on you they are only interested in money ($$$$), but once you get put on they jump on your d**k.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Sam GNotes: Look out for a lot of hot productions, My boy Shimmy Choo from New York is on Firreee.. I’m trying to bring him to my side and jump in da lab.. Lots more music video visuals by Prince Beatz416. Overall just grinding for good music.
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Sam GNotes: In life you have to work hard no matter what your doing, but never forget when you look in the sky far beyond the galaxy, God is there and if you put yourself being in God’s hands, there is nothing or none that can stop You. Sam Gnotes
