10 Questions With Keven Jacobs

Keven Jacobs 2
Hailing out of San Antonio, Texas, hip hop artist Keven Jacobs has some big plans for the rest of the year. It is safe to call Keven Jacobs a newbie in this rap game, but with his determination and patience, he is definitely on his way to being groundbreaking. With new music out (full-length mixtape Never Satisfied released in winter 2016 and self-titled EP dropped this May), Keven Jacobs is able to perfect his sound and continue to involve in storytelling. Big influence by TDE and Mack Miller, Keven’s music will attract news listeners who are fans of this type of hip hop style.
I interviewed Keven about his upbringing, venturing out in the music industry, being an independent artist, new music and more. Check it out after the jump!
Tell us about yourself and your music?
Keven Jacobs: Well, first off, I am a 22 year old hip hop artist out of San Antonio, Texas. I have been writing since I was 16 years old, but did not start recording until I was 21. My music is different. I like to talk about the things that I have been through and the things that I have seen. I like to tell a story. I also like to have fun with my music as well; I feel it’s something for all hip hop heads can vibe to.
How would you describe your sound?
Keven Jacobs: My sound is more along the lines of the new age of rap like TDE on the west coast and Mac Miller just to name a couple. I listen to artists like them to motivate me and inspire my music it is also unique because I add my own style and voice to my music with my own experiences.
Talk about the experience making your single?
Keven Jacobs: My latest single “Runnin’” was released back in April and it was fun because I had got a Johnny Juliano beat and I wanted to try and make a good record and I was lucky enough to get into contact with a lucky artist by the name of Young Roc out of Detroit and we were able to put together a really good record it was my first time working with someone who was deep in the industry.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Keven Jacobs: I Just finished recording my 6 track self-titled EP a few weeks ago so I am in motion to drop that on the 16th of May and after that I have a few producers that I am in contact with and we are currently in the works to make a few good singles this summer hopefully they get good attention. As far as shows, I am getting ready for those coming in the summer as well I just want to make sure the EP release goes as planned then we can start back up with the shows.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Keven Jacobs: Very recently actually just getting recognition from other artists on Twitter and through my email and very recently people have been asking me to get on their tracks and I can finally see a little bit of progress in my career so that has been very fun and interesting. Just getting noticed has been huge for me
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?
Keven Jacobs: Ideally I would love to work with Mac Miller if the chance came up. I just feel like I really connect with his music and hearing his first two albums Blue Slide Park and Watching Movies with The Sound Off really made me want to make music and got me started.
Name something random that people do not know about you?
Keven Jacobs: I love History documentaries. I mean I can stay up all night watching them! I mean I am a behind the scenes nerd when it comes to that my friends always give me hard time but I don’t care.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Keven Jacobs: Honestly, that nothing in this industry is given to you especially as an indie artist. You have to go out and push your brand and name as far as you can and use your time and resources the best you can. You’ll need to network and work with people so you can get your name out there. It is not easy at all; you have to work and have patience in this industry.

What can we expect from you in the future?
Keven Jacobs: More music that is for sure. I have another project in the works coming by the end of the year hopefully but, I do plan to release about 2-3 singles in the coming months and more music videos are on the way as well. I am going to continue to put out music so nothing but work from here.
