One thing that makes Joey Capo stand out from the rest is his authenticity. He is true to himself as a man and artist. Most artists these days, cannot say that because they are “trend chasing.” However, this rapper/singer is on his lane, making smooth tracks that most can vibe to and get lost in. Joey Capo is on the rise and making fans from across the globe.
Joey Capo is doing pretty good in his career thus far. He just released his newest EP, ENSO which will continue his journey as he lets his listeners into his world.
I interview Joey Capo about ENSO, his new single, “Woosah,” plans and touring. Check out the interview below.
Tell us about yourself and your music?
Joey Capo: My name is Joey Capo. I was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. A city about an hour from Philly and an hour from NYC. The music I make has all to do with my life and situations I have been through in my life. So basically, if I haven’t lived it or experienced it in any way then I just don’t rap or sing about it in my songs. I was never the type of artist to bring that fictional image to my own image just to make people dig my music. I strive to stay in my own lane so people who listen to any of my music, will know me and the real me, not a make believe lifestyle, just to be more appealing to the masses.
How would you describe your sound?
Joey Capo: I would describe my sound as being chill, smooth, and something you can definitely vibe to anywhere from driving around in the car, a lounge, or even partying at club. But I mostly like to keep my sound more on that smooth side, something you would hear in a lounge. I always liked to keep that vibe so people can really get lost in the melodies and really connect with my lyrics to understand the artistry I bring to the mic.
Talk about the experience making your single?
Joey Capo: My single “Woosah” was actually my last track I made for my upcoming EP ENSO. I really wanted to make a track that really described my journey to not only everyday life but also the process of me making this project. I came up with “Woosah” because on everyone’s ride to success or dreams they have, we all go through a lot of bad times, good times, many highs, and lows on that journey. But what this single talks about that on that road to dreams and success, that with everything going on around us things can get really hectic, a feeling like everything is moving extremely fast, but what we need to do in times like this is just take a step back, chill out or in the songs case “Woosah” and just enjoy the ride to that dream we may have.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Joey Capo: I currently just finished my EP ENSO, which will be released on May 22, 2016. ENSO is a form of art in the zen culture that is a moment when your mind is free to create. The Symbol to Enso is a circle that is symbolic to absolute enlightenment. With that being said the whole project is definitely going be something new and refreshing for today’s industry and fans. Bringing a whole different feel that will really put people on a new wave of music. Now as for shows, I’m looking to do a small tour to a couple cities in and out of PA. But there’s nothing really set in stone yet.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Joey Capo: Other than networking and chopping it up with Lenny S from Roc Nation, I would have to say the biggest highlight of my career so far is just seeing people love the new music I have been putting out. Getting a lot of great feedback from fans, and just seeing them backing up my hustle. Because I stopped recording for a couple months to really hone in on my craft and just the whole feel of my music I wanted to do. But now coming back after that break I definitely feel like people’s views on my music changed big time and in a positive way.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?
Joey Capo: I mean they are so so many artists I can name but my ideal collaboration from the sound I’m on now would definitely be Majid Jordan. I love the creative topics and the production they put together in their music. And I feel like between my sound and theirs, we would definitely make something crazy.
Name something random that people do not know about you?
Joey Capo: Everyone can tell from the first impression that I am Italian. But what people will never pick up on is that I am also part Vietnamese.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Joey Capo: To stay in your own lane and never stop doing what is real to you just because people want to label your style different.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Joey Capo: Definitely a lot more great music. But besides that, just completely bringing a new sound and face to the major mainstream industry.
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
