With an unique voice and image, Miss Chay Bella is making a standout amongst the newer independent female rappers. Not only is Miss Chay Bella an artist, but she is also a poet and songwriter. With the skill of clever wordplay, this up and coming hip hop artist is becoming quite lyrical.
I got a chance to interview Miss Chay Bella about her experience recording her mixtape, Permanently on Vacation, her ideal collaborations, some industry lessons she has learned and more. Peep the interview after the jump!
Tell us about yourself and your music.
Miss Chay Bella: Young, poetic, and demands attention, (laughs). No, really I write about real experiences which are relatable and hopefully memorable.
How would you describe your sound?
Miss Chay Bella: Good vibes sometimes mixed with a little edgy and poetry.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
Miss Chay Bella: Deciding on the direction that I wanted to go in was difficult. I had other songs and different concepts lined up. However, writing ‘Permanently On Vacation’ was easy, and when one song was finished, the next one came rolling too. Everything was literally falling into place and suddenly I had discovered I really am on a permanent vacation doing what I love. It’s the project where I learned the most about myself, and I also saw the most growth in my career. I was talking about how I felt and the summertime feelings that always seem to rush back every summer after dating and relationships. I’m still on the island. I’m still enjoying the project.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Miss Chay Bella: Always working on new songs, performing, and a smudge of acting, which I never do on a daily basis anyway.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Miss Chay Bella: Presenting an award and performing at the Southern Entertainment Awards
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)
Miss Chay Bella: Kanye, Jay-Z, Fefe Dobson, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Rihanna, Britney Spears.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
Miss Chay Bella: I only like white cheeses.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Miss Chay Bella: Different is good.
What can we expect from you in the future?
