From witty lines, to metaphors, Jaron Marquis is a fresh new artist that you all should hear. We got a chance to interview this hip hop artist to talk about his artistry, plans, and music. Read the interview below:
Tell us about yourself and your music.
Jaron Marquis: I am a regular guy who loves music. I have been doing music for years—writing composing and performing in various genres. I stopped doing music after I had my first daughter and focused on building businesses in corporate America. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to return to music and entertainment…I took it.
How would you describe your sound?
Jaron Marquis: My sound is soulful with an edge. Think college dropout Kanye with a touch of Janelle Monae. But every song, is different, so every song, kinda has a different feel.

Talk about the experience making your upcoming album?
Jaron Marquis: We titled the album, urdered my Excuses because I had so many excuses that kept me from pursuing my dream of music. Everything and everyone was telling me why I couldn’t do it. But I decided to murder the voices and naysayers in my head and push for what I have always wanted to do.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Jaron Marquis: Yes, here in LA, I’ve been doing a lot of shows, and there are a lot more coming up in the upcoming year. I am also planning on doing some shows overseas in 2017 as well as many festivals for the festival season.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Jaron Marquis: My biggest highlight is just being here. As I said earlier, just to be able to do music was a triumph in itself for me. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be able to call myself a recording artist. Yeah, I’ve been fortunate also to meet and work with some amazing grammy award winning artists. But that thrill fades—the biggest highlight…is that my life is becoming a highlight. Because I get to do what I have always wanted to do…since childhood. Imagine that!
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
Jaron Marquis: I would love to do a song with Eminem and Sia or Eminem and Lady Gaga. I think that song would be sooooo dope. It would be amazing. There are so many artists that I like and would like to work with though…that is just the first to come to mind.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
Jaron Marquis: I am a tech geek. Since I still own many of my companies—it allows me to still invest in new technology and start-ups that create innovation in the tech vertical that makes sense and add value to existing and emerging industries.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Jaron Marquis: People value music differently, understanding the business models behind many of the streaming services and music distribution platforms have allowed me to gain more insight into the users needs and wants—this has allowed me to create more value to my fans and listeners by creating experiences that they value more.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Jaron Marquis: Some really great music. This is a great time to be alive—there are moments now that did not exist years ago. People are listing more to content and have access to information. Being able to distill everything that we as humanity go through in certain moments to a 3-4 minute song that will inspire, encourage and teach…is what we as recording artists do. And I hope to be able to give the world some great music that will help them get through even the darkest of hours.
