Interview: Digital 7 Music Group

Digital 7 Music Group is a company you should know about. From their talents ranging in artist development, producing, marketing, and branding, they are simply a great asset to the independent music scene. They are aware of what’s hot now and what will last forever in hip hop music and the dance/party genre. I caught up with the A&R for Digital 7 Music Group, Lord B, to discuss their “We Talkin Money Vol 1 compilation album, working with talented artists, some industry jewels, as well as what him and his team has planned next. Check it out below:
Tell us about yourself and your music.
Lord B is the executive producer of “We Talkin Money Vol 1,” a compilation album with 20 exclusive tracks. We have some really good music on this album, singles from Street Anthym “Cut Up” and “Make It Real;” TC go hard with “Trust Issues,” and “Grown Men” by Jai 1 make us conscious of life’s conditions. All the music my team and I produce is straight from the heart. And urban base sound something to make you dance and nod your head. I’m a beat first producer the sound is the root of the song.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is mostly updated and in line with today’s big radio’s trendy urban hip-hop rap music. My compilation album “We Talkin Money Vol 1” is a very diverse LP with upbeat dance tracks, hustle tunes, trap music, and few alternative hip hop records.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
Well it wasn’t easy; very difficult to bring fifty teen different artists together on the compilation album. Other than that I really enjoyed arranging this album and working with each artist. I’m so proud of their performance. This is my first compilation album these guys really got busy on each track. It’s hard to find somebody that doesn’t like this album. We got some great review from the media, blogger, music critics.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
We are focus on the compilation album right now due to be officially release October 10th 2016. We are preparing to shoot music videos this fall for artists off the album such as, Street Anthym, Hunnet Band Gang, Tres Smoke, and Jai 1. We have some up and coming shows with some mainstream artist all fall and winter this year.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Man just having great relationships with executives at Universal Music Group and their partners and working with multi grammy award winning engineers and production techs. My label heads are great they support the album and the movement.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
My ideal collaboration would be with my artists bringing TC, Tres Smoke, Max Millie with some mainstream such as Jeezy, Trey Songz, or Jaheim. That would be crazy dope I would love to work with these big names.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
I’m a hard core businessman. I work very hard at my craft music and finance. My team and I work diligently every week for our artists. I engage in publishing, shows, merch, directing materiel to well-known mid-labels for a recording contact negotiations or decisions.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
Well as a A&R for Digital 7 Music Group, I’ve seen a lot most indie artists think they can do it all themselves. 99% of them are misinformed, so they develop a love hate relationship with their label or management. The bottom line is that this industry lack artist development and the 99% need a lot of development. Plus recourses such as capital or budget for projects and a ton of human resources either hometown support or fans creating more fans they may need a cool factor for fans support. This industry change by the month and the indie artists can’t keep up with the platforms or trends.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I always was behind the scenes helping artists fund their project over the years. Now I’m more in the middle with my crew on the front line Don2Vito, Max Millie, and Wolfy will push the album in the streets and head the movement. We got a lot of good music for the fans to certify into mainstream radio, clubs, and parties. Next year should be exciting for us all we have seven projects due to release in 2016 by our label.
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
My artists and I really appreciate everybody supporting our movement. Our artists are emerging very quickly and they all have their own sound and different rap style. Get to know us you can check our music out on
