Spotlight Interview: Ajani (@GlynnIzTruth)

Meet the upcoming and buzzing artist coming out of St. Marys, Georgia: Ajani. The young artist has his own lane and is authentic in his swagger, sound, and style. When the current trends all on the rise and there are many copycats out there in the music world, Ajani stands out the pack. Case in point, his latest release, Etherious is proof in the pudding that this wave of music is something that all hip hop heads should listen to. So we are so glad to have interviewed Ajani about his latest music, upcoming plans and some life lesson he has learned along the way.
Tell us about yourself and your music.
I’m Ajani i’m 26 years old born in Brunswick, GA. Which is in the SouthEastern region of GA, not anywhere near ATL. I been making music since I was 12 years old, recording on tape recorders with my cousin, emailing any record label whom email address I could find tryna get signed. I took a hiatus from music around 17 out of boredom and started back when i was 20. I was really finding myself in those years and came back with a new inspiration for music and a new approach to it. With my music I try to provide balance by having those songs with substance that social conditions we live in and those you can let loose to. A balance between thought provoking and turn up music.
How would you describe your sound?
My music is a blend of revolutionary, trap, and experimental shit. I’m influenced heavily by Kid Cudi.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
It was fun AF, I record everything in-house. On this particular project i’ve experimented with new flows, while staying true to my own style. I think the EP came out pretty good, it was meant to be short and sweet and I think i accomplished that.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Working on two projects right now actually. Vibes I: Indigo Frequencies is the next project up. Which is a experimental project so I’m going to have a lot of different sounds and song formats on that. I hope to release that by mid February. The next is a project with my group The People’s Vanguard, should be out sometime in March.

After those two drop I’m working on Etherious II which my boy VincitBeats, the producer of “Fast Life” is going to do all the production for that. No definite release date on that one but definitely sometime in the spring.

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Probably performing in St. Petersberg, FL back in 2013. My group got a formal invention to perform at an event the Uhuru Movement was throwing. The crowd really loved us so we thought that was dope. We never had anyone just contact us to perform at their event prior to that so it was a great experience.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
I have so many artists i wanna work with. I’ll name a few…

Kid Cudi

Travis Scott

Denzel Curry

Flatbush Zombies

Joey BadA$$

The Underachievers

Really so many, I’ll be here all day listing all the people who i wanna work with. But cudi and la flame are on the top of the list.

Name something random that people do not know about you.
I used to race BMX when i was around 8 years old. I always had love for extreme sports like skateboarding, BMX, Motorcross, etc. Thinking about getting back into it again.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
There’s a lot of shady people in this industry. You really have to be on top of your game or someone will try to get over on you. I feel the learning process never ends, I still have yet to go to my first music conference to network with people in the industry, a goal I plan to accomplish this year.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Consistency. Dope ass music and consistency. I’m not going to take any breaks. I’m giving this shit my entirity. I’m trying to be in consideration for the 2018 XXL freshman cover so I got a lot of work I gotta put in 2017 to make that happen and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
