Spotlight Interview: Get to Know Vonte’

It started out as a dream and then overnight, Vonte’ made this hip hop game a reality. Up and coming rapper with swagger, hails from Norfolk, Virginia and was based in Clayton, North Carolina. A fan of the likes of J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance the Rapper, his style is influenced by the latter; however, his music and brand is strictly his own. He is an artist that is in his own lane. With a passion for writing music and recording music that other people can relate to, is something that makes him standout. Vonte’ should be an artist on your radar. The kid is up next.

Tell us about yourself and your music.
My name is Vonte’ and  I am a rap artist; I am 20 yrs old.  I started rapping and really taking this serious when I was 18.  My mom hated when I would make music and always told me I wasn’t good enough.  She was doubting me the whole time, but my passion never stopped me from doing what I love to do.  I feel like I could really make an impact with my music, and I feel like a lot of people would love it.  If somebody gave me the chance I guarantee I would be able to provide.
How would you describe your sound?
My music is a few different styles just depending on the mood that I feel that song should be.  It just revolves around the beat and theme of the overall song.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
I did it fairly quick, it took about 2.5 weeks for me to do the whole thing.  I think that finding the right placement for each song in the overall project was the hardest part.  Writing is probably the easiest, yet the most tedious.  Sometimes it’s hard to stay on topic about what you are initially rapping about in the first place, which isn’t super hard but the hardest part about writing for me.  I didn’t want a similar sound for each song, I wanted it to be diverse but also dope and different.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
I’m currently in the process of starting my next project, I don’t have a name for it yet but I know the theme for it, I’ll just keep that a mystery until I release it.  If I give a hypothetical time-line I would say I’ll drop it at the most 5 months from now.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
Honestly just the feedback that I’ve gotten from my mixtape, it’s so dope to see that people enjoy something that I created.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
Ooohhh man haha…I have a lot of artist that I want to work with, but I would say right now either J. Cole or Chance The Rapper, those two are too dope.
Name something random that people do not know about you.
I love soccer, my favorite sport.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?
I would say patience is the biggest thing to have. You can’t come in expecting to be a star overnight, of course there is always going to be the lucky few, but I’d say just always work hard and always be prepared for both success and failure.
What can we expect from you in the future?
You can expect me to drop some songs and remixes and my soon to come project which will be very personal to me.
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
If you are a fan or support me with what I’m doing I really appreciate it.  If you are reading this I need all the help I can get with achieving my goals, and I think that starts with a fan base.  Thank you, blessings to you all.
