Meet G Battles, an emcee that is making major music in the indie scene. Hailing from the west coast, G. Battles has the west coast influence in his music, but with his own style and mix to it. His latest track, “Love Gettin’ Paid” is one of the examples of this as he offers a Midwest bounce filled with G Funk vibes and melodic rhymes. Definitely worth your attention as a new listener.
We had to catch up with the buzzing artist to talk about new releases, upcoming plans and more. Check it out below!
Tell us about yourself and your music.
I’m from Oakland California, now living in Las Vegas. A lot of my sound is drawn from the west coast vibes and lifestyle we live on this side, i strive for authenticity in all that I do. Everything I speak on the mic is a reflection of what i see and what I’ve experienced in my own lifetime. Everyday is a new day to become a better you, in my case, everyday is a new day to excel in my craft and share new music with my followers and new listeners. If you want to know who I am, a lot of my truth you can find in my music.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound is diverse, my biggest influences in music are 2pac, Snoop Dogg and Bone Thugs N Harmony.
Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape.
My new song is called “Love Getting Paid”. The verses tell a story of how life has been for me over the past year. I hooked up with M,C.V my producer, last year through my mentor Rappin 4-Tay. He’s from the MidWest in Gary Indiana, I feel like a lot of the west coast G Funk Influence came from the Midwest so its only right that we collaborate together and put a twist on that sound and make it new again.
What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?
Right now Im working on a new EP, I got some heat in the works that I’m excited to share with the people. The EP is titled, “About Time: GB Trill_OG”. At this point in my career i feel like its my time to get my shine on, hence about time. The Trill_OG comes from me being the 3rd born with my name Gordon Battles, trilogy. It also stand for the Holy Trinity that guides me in this crazy world we live in today. My next show is in Fresno, Im opening for one of my biggest inspirations, Bone Thugs N Harmony on August 27th and the Full Circle Brewing Co.
What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?
I actually have two, the first highlight I’d have to say was having my music featured on Snoop Dogg’s Doggy Style Records sound cloud page. They featured my song “Down 4 Whatever” off my previous album The Dogg Star. The 2nd highlight is having my song “Cut Loose” licensed in the TV Show Shameless last year. They choose to put it in a racially charged scene, which i thought was brilliant due to all the racial
tension in this country over the past few years.
Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s).
My ideal collaboration would be with Dr. Dre, he’s a west coast Don and Icon who’s production is timeless. I admire what he did as a business man and a artist, if I could be in the studio with him it would be a dream come true! Straight up!
Name something random that people do not know about you.
I played a journalist in my first acting gig in the movie “Straight Outta Compton” during the press conference scene. I had a bald head and a red flannel shirt button up to my neck, you can’t miss me. Being apart of that movie was like jumping in a hip hop hollywood time machine.
What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the
indie music scene/industry?
Focus on establishing your own brand and putting in work daily, if you build it they will come. Nobody is going to give you anything, and if they do, you are truly blessed and highly favored. The more you work, the more the factors (on the scene and behind the scenes) will feel inclined to help you push to the next level in the game.
What can we expect from you in the future?
More music, more music and more music. Get ready!
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Anybody who’s taken the time out to read this, I appreciate you. Just you reading this is you giving me a chance to be heard, and that’s more than what i could ask for from people. Look out for my new EP and more visuals to come, I hungry like I aint ate yet. When they see you ate the table they gotta pass you the plate, and I don’t miss dinner
