“I grew up in southern Indiana, so right there you know I was bound for greatness. Began talking and reading at an early age, was on the junior varsity basketball team for one game, got my first computer in 1995, started playing the drums around that same time, spent several years in the marching band, became part of the first DLCCC Championship Team “The John Stamos Experience. I think that takes care of the biography part. How did I come into Nerdcore?
After years of touring in Pop Punk and Rock bands I wanted to try something different. I discovered MC Lars several years ago and fell in love with his version of hip hop. Soon after I discovered other “Nerdcore” artists such as Megaran, MC Frontalot, Optimus Rhyme, Sammus and others. You could create hip hop music and have fun with it. Sing/Rap about Comic Books, Video Games, Science Fiction, Movies.
There are already so many hip hop/rap artists out there and I wanted to stand out. My thought was to take the production and music seriously but make all of the lyrical content satirical. All my songs are on the lighter side of things (Harry Potter, Back to the Future, Peter Pan, Nintendo, etc) but when I’m behind the mic I want to entertain and give people a good show. That being said, when I have a mic in my hand, I also need to share the love of Christ and how He’s changed my life.”
The EP: Myld Stallyn
Ben Knight requested not to post the music so you guys will have to wait until it officially comes out but I was given a sneak peak of what you can expect. First off I want to start off by saying he is a Nerdcore rapper. Nerdcore is a genre of I wasn’t familiar with so I looked it up. According to Wikipedia, Nerdcore is “a genre of hip hop music characterized by themes and subject matter considered to be of general interest to nerds. Self-explanatory lol. So after looking that up, I gave the 5 track EP a listen. The first track “The Lighter Side of the Dark Knight” has a lot of Batman references. It’s pretty dope. It has some nice trumpet sounds and and a nice bass. He’s rapping as if he’s Batman by the way which is also dope. He wants people to know the soft side of Batman, the real side if you will.I can definitely hear this in a batman movie. The second song “Weapons of Mass Distraction” is about pretty much about him letting television distract him from doing things. It’s pretty comical and also another dope track. “Myld Stallyns” is the title track. It’s a dope history track. I actually learned some new things listening to this track. “Something Happened on the Way to Zanarkand” is about a place in the game Final Fantasy X. If you’re a Final Fantasy fan, you’ll definitely love this track. It has a nice gaming sound to it. The final track “Untitled (The Song With No Name)” has a dope instrumental. He raps about his rap journey. It’s also another comical song about how he has a little trouble fully writing this song but it’s still dope!
Overall this EP is pretty dope. Ben Knight also has a pretty nice singing voice. The quality of all the songs were excellent and I can really hear these songs in a movie or tv show. He’s funny so these songs are fun to listen to. If you like Lil Dicky you will love Ben Knight. Give his music a listen to.
