Kachinga has been making music since the age of 14. Having been influenced by such icons as Kanye West, Feist and Jay-Z, all of these names have come to influence his sound alongside his own vibrant and unique personality. Beginning as a member of collective Skool City and since branching out into his own persona alongside the production of Lava Cru, Kachinga is now backed by Three Entertainment Group. Kachinga has worked hard to pave a new path for his sound, often described as genre-bending, combining elements of Hip Hop and RnB with rock and indie influences. With two EPs under his belt already (“It’s Raining” and “Bloody Nose”) as well as opening for Childish Gambino as a feature with the band The Lytics, Kachinga is destined to make waves with his inspired fusion of sound. Some of his accolades include recording and releasing a cover for GOOD music recording artist Mr.Hudson, opening for Childish Gambino with The Lytics, having featured articles by Hip Hop Canada, and performing at the University of Manitoba Frosh week show amongst other things.
On Feb 28, 2018, Kachinga released his LP “Sky Falling”. He says “The album was inspired by a journey of loss and learning, the struggle to find a balance between the good and the bad in life, and serves as a reminder to find the good within the bad and to acknowledge and accept the bad with the good”. Take a listen to it below:
The album in a whole is pretty dope. If you are into Frank Ocean, Chance the Rapper, or Kid Cudi, you will definitely. There are definitely some songs on the album that remind me of each of those artists. Wedding Dress is definitely a track that will remind you of Chance. The album is filled with smooth sounds that’s mixed with singing and rap. He also has the help from Rosie Eberhard and others on this as well. I would say this is my favorite on this project. But I would definitely let the whole thing run on repeat. This is not the trap rap that is taking over mainstream now so it is a breath of fresh air. I’m all for the indie vibes.
He has two songs that he also released which are fire. The first one is “New York”. Take a listen below:
The instrumental to this is so dope. I love one of the first lines is about how he was walking in NYC and as soon as he hit 5th Avenue, it was all suits. That’s usually how it is over here but we’re so used to it here. It’s like a divider almost. Definitely a sign to level up. Check out the visual below:
The second song is “Balance” which is on the LP. Take a listen:
It’s a short but sweet song. It starts off with a nice sample. The instrumental is smooth. I would say this track is a mix of Kendrick and Chance if it needed to be described in style. It was a quick track about growing up and balancing things out in life/what’s currently going on and the struggles that come with that. Check out the visual below:
Overall, Kachinga is a dope artist. I will definitely be on the look out for any future projects he has coming. He is worth a listen and needs to bring his Canadian talent to the states.
